Why the crosshair looks different on every background
Minecraft doesn't paint the crosshair on top of the world — it flips the colours underneath it, so white becomes the opposite of whatever you're looking at. That's why the vanilla crosshair is dark on the sky and light in a cave. The preview above does the same maths the game does, pixel for pixel, so the crosshair you design here looks the same in game.
